Gregory R. Carmichael, University of Iowa’s Karl Kammermeyer Professor of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, will lead a new international initiative of the United Nations World Meteorological Organization (WMO) called the Global Greenhouse Gas Watch (G3W).

Emily Shull recently graduated from the University of Iowa College of Engineering with a PhD in industrial and systems engineering. Soon she will begin her professional career as a general engineer at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The Iowa Geologic Site and Sample Tracking Program, a University of Iowa repository of 10 million feet of drilling samples, has rock chips from more than 40,000 wells and nearly 60,000 driller’s logs from across the state.

Synthetic chemicals that persist indefinitely in the environment have been detected in the water of several deep wells in parts of Iowa with porous bedrock, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Soura Dasgupta, a University of Iowa (UI) Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is collaborating on a multidisciplinary research project to improve detection and treatment of Parkinson’s disease (PD).  

The University of Iowa’s Operator Performance Lab (OPL) was among those who evaluated the next generation fixed wing helmet that was recently selected by the U.S. Air Force as the new standard helmet for many of its aircraft.  

Marcus Tatum is combining his background in biomedical engineering with new industrial and systems engineering skills to improve surgical outcomes. His work minimizes risk for vulnerable patients by addressing the lack of surgical simulation and developing new imaging technologies.

Born in New Delhi, India, Bhavya Vats immigrated to Iowa about nine years ago with her family. She recently received a BSE in biomedical engineering (BME) from the University of Iowa, and was a recipient of the Academic & Scholarly Achievement Award at the 2023 International Student Graduation Celebration.
