The majority of our PhD students receive full funding, which includes a monthly stipend, a waiver that covers 100% of tuition and a fee scholarship that covers 50% of mandatory fees, and two health insurance plans to choose from.
Graduate student funding may come from a combination of sources, including teaching or research fellowships. Stipend amounts vary from department to department so prospective students interested in being considered for these awards should reach out a graduate coordinator at engr-grad@uiowa.edu for more information.
New and current graduate students can also supplement their funding by applying for additional scholarships and fellowships. Please refer to the list below for both internal and external funding opportunities. Most internal fellowships require a departmental or faculty nomination and external fellowships need a direct application from the student.
There are fewer funding options for master’s students, however both research and teaching assistantships are available on a case-by-case basis.
The University of Iowa Graduate College offers one-on-one consulting to current UI students who apply for nationally competitive grants and fellowships. Learn more about how the Grad Success Team can support you during the application process.
