College of Engineering Graduate Incentive Funding (GIF) for Applying for Fellowships ($100 - $500)
Graduate students have two opportunities to receive a bonus for applying for nationally competitive fellowships. The purpose is to encourage submission of applications by providing an incentive to do so. Each year, the College of Engineering receives applications from Engineering students, at least four of which in 2018 alone were successfully funded as prestigious National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship awards. If you submit a fellowship application to any organization, let us know and receive an incentive!
1. College of Engineering Graduate Incentive Fellowship (GIF) – $100
Eligibility and instructions:
- Submission of this GIF application must be made at the time of your initial application.
- The fellowship application must be nationally competitive.
- A copy of the fellowship application must be included with the GIF application.
- Students must agree to inform the Associate Dean of the outcome of the application. You do not need to have a successful application to receive the $100 bonus, just proof you submitted.
- Example proof of submission: confirmation email, screenshot of online submission page, notification of funding decision from organization, etc.

2. Graduate College Fellowship Incentive Program - $400
Eligibility and instructions:
- Get feedback on a written draft from a faculty advisor before submitting your nationally competitive fellowship application (see list of faculty advisors online):
https://www.grad.uiowa.edu/fellowship-incentive-program - Apply for an eligible nationally competitive fellowship and keep proof of submission (you do not need to win the award)

- After you submit your form it will be sent to your advisor for verification, then sent to the Graduate College for final confirmation with fellowships advisors. You will receive an email with instructions if there are any complications.
