Nearly 50 high school robotics teams from across Iowa and beyond convened in Coralville, Iowa, to showcase their skills and creations at the FIRST Tech Challenge Iowa Championship.

Ashley Rhodes is among eighteen exceptional researchers, scholars, innovators, students, and administrators recognized by the Office of the Vice President for Research in the 2023 Discovery and Innovation Awards program.

Jackson Begolka, a third year University of Iowa mechanical engineering major, has been accepted into a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) airborne research program for undergraduate students.

Xuan Song, University of Iowa engineering professor, has received the prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award to advance research of ceramic additive manufacturing, which could benefit industries, including health care, defense, and energy. 

Emily Shull, industrial and systems engineering Ph.D. candidate, was honored at a ceremony in Washington D.C. for her awards from the University Transportation Center (UTC). She received the SAFER-SIM Excellence Award and the 2022 UTC Outstanding Student of the Year award.

TJ Tollakson, a 2003 University of Iowa graduate with a degree in industrial engineering, has spent time in engineering classrooms and labs as well as at the U.S. Olympic Training Center and now at Dimond Bikes, a company he founded in 2011 and where he is now CEO.

When Megan Greenwood graduated with her industrial engineering degree from the University of Iowa in 2011, she was working to solve one issue in engineering: the lack of women engineers across industry. Before long, she would be addressing another problem: the lack of women-led breweries among the approximately 9100 breweries in the United States.

In Fall 2022, the ribbon was cut on a new residential development in Maquoketa, IA. Original designs for the neighborhood were created by University of Iowa Civil and Environmental Engineering students in conjunction with the Iowa Initiative for Sustainable Studies’ (IISC) partnership with the East Central Intergovernmental Association (ECIA).

Four University of Iowa faculty members are recipients of the 2023 President and Provost Award for Teaching Excellence, recognizing their exceptional and ongoing contributions to student learning and success.
