Undergraduate Biomedical Engineering at Iowa

The curriculum stresses theoretical concepts, hypothesis formulation and testing, experimental design issues, data acquisition, and computational approaches to data analysis and model interpretation. The curriculum culminates in a two-semester capstone design experience, during which each senior completes a technical design project under the direction of a faculty supervisor.

The faculty strive to develop materials that allow students to acquire analytical and computational tools needed for innovative work in the physical, biological, and engineering sciences. Department faculty members have teaching and research expertise in areas related to cardiovascular and fluid biomechanics, musculoskeletal biomechanics, biomaterials and tissue engineering, bioinstrumentation, biosystems, biomedical imaging, biological signal analysis, bioinformatics and computational biology, and other allied fields.
