Applications are now being accepted for spring 2026
Before applying, please read this page of instructions!
Before applying for a specific course, confirm you are available for the scheduled course and lab times. You will be asked to provide the semester you completed the course, the instructor, and the grade you received for all courses for which you apply.
Position Description
Undergraduate and graduate students may apply for teaching assistant (TA) positions. TAs are typically scheduled to work 10 hours per week, but hours can vary depending on the position.
Students in this role provide general assistance to faculty in conducting their coursework and facilitating a positive student learning experience. The work typically involves activities such as grading assignments, conducting discussion/lab sessions, and holding office hours. The specific responsibilities for each position will be assigned by the instructor.
The courses listed in the application are anticipated to be offered for the spring semester, but we cannot guarantee that a TA position will be offered. We assign TAs only to courses with 20 or more registered students; however, we are accepting applications for courses with 15 or more registered students in anticipation that they will meet the threshold of 20 students. Positions are always dependent upon budget and actual enrollment. The application deadline is Friday, November 21, 2025.
If you have any questions, please contact katherine-dudley@uiowa.edu.
Attention, graduate students!
If you are applying for a GTA position, you are expected to have a 50% appointment during the semester for which you are applying. This means you must meet one of the following conditions:
- A 50% TA appointment, which is equivalent to 20 hours per week (being a TA for two courses)
- A combination of a 25% GRA appointment and a 25% GTA appointment.
Candidates with appointments of less than 50% are unlikely to be considered.
