Within the Environmental Engineering Program, students select a Focus Area to achieve exposure and depth of study in an area of interest. Each Focus Area has at least 15 semester hours of coursework among its Focus Area required and elective courses. Some Focus Areas may require additional courses to satisfy requirements for a Minor or Certificate Program; these courses may be taken for General Education Component credit.

Selecting an Environmental Engineering Focus Area

All students must select an Environmental Engineering Focus Area. To select or change your Focus Area, use the following online academic form:

After receiving final confirmation of your Focus Area selection, the Focus Area requirements will be shown for the Declared Program of Study on your Degree Audit.

Environmental Focus Area Non-Engineering Electives

The Environmental Focus Area allows students to pick up to three Focus Area electives (9 semester hours) from:

  • A list of engineering courses (shown on the Plan of Study)
  • A list of pre-approved non-engineering courses (shown on the Plan of Study)

Other non-engineering courses that can be approved for Focus Area credit are:

  • Any course(s) taken to satisfy the requirements of a Minor or Certificate Program. You must be enrolled in the Minor or Certificate Program and include a program degree audit with your request.
  • Any other course(s) relevant to the Focus Area. You must provide justification for relevance with your request. Note that many 2000 level or below course will not be approved for Focus Area elective credit.
