Welcome to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Iowa.
Civil and environmental engineers help create the infrastructure, water systems, and environmental solutions that improve quality of life and support a sustainable future. Our department is committed to educating future leaders, advancing knowledge through research, and serving communities in Iowa and around the world.
At Iowa, students learn in a collaborative environment that combines strong academics with hands-on experience. Our faculty and students work together to address challenges in water resources, environmental systems, transportation, structures, materials, and resilient infrastructure. Through these experiences, students develop the technical expertise, creativity, and leadership skills needed to make a lasting impact.
CEE faculty are active researchers and leaders in several of the University of Iowa’s flagship research centers and institutes. These include IIHR—Hydroscience and Engineering and the Iowa Technology Institute, as well as interdisciplinary programs such as the Iowa Superfund Research Program and the Center for Health Effects of Environmental Contamination. Through these efforts, our faculty contribute significantly to collaborative, high-impact research that advances science, informs policy, and addresses critical challenges in water, infrastructure, environmental quality, and public health.
Whether you are a prospective student, current student, alumnus, research partner, or visitor, we invite you to explore our programs, connect with our community, and learn more about the many ways CEE is helping engineer a better world.
