Overview: Semiconductors, Photonics, and Quantum Systems

Faculty research focuses on photonics, nanotechnology, and advanced optical materials, with an emphasis on designing and engineering devices that manipulate light for sensing, imaging, communications, and emerging quantum computing applications. Research explores nanophotonic structures, metasurfaces, infrared emitters and detectors, biosensors, and integrated optical systems, combining principles from electrical engineering, materials science, and applied physics to develop next-generation photonic technologies. Students interested in photonics, optics, nanofabrication, semiconductor devices, sensing technologies, and advanced materials will find opportunities to work on research that spans both fundamental scientific discovery and the development of innovative optical and electronic devices.
