Students who have earned a BS or a MS degree in an engineering curriculum or a curriculum in the mathematical or physical sciences are eligible to be considered for admission to the graduate program in mechanical engineering (ME).

Minimum requirements for admission

GRE is not required but you are welcome to submit the scores.

 

TOEFL requirements:
Paper-based (PBT) score of 550 or higher

Internet-based (iBT) score of 81 or higher

DuoLingo (DET) score of 105 or higher

IELTS score of 7 is required. Newly admitted graduate students who present TOEFL scores below 600 on the PBT, below 100 on the iBT will be required to complete an English Proficiency Evaluation on campus before their first registration for classes. IELTS test takersregardless of scorewill be required to take an on campus English Proficiency Evaluation. There is no conditional admission for graduate students whose TOEFL scores are below 550 on the PBT, below 81 on the iBT or below 6.5 on the IELTS.

Other requirements:

  • Minimum GPA 3.0/4.0 scale is required
  • 3 letters of recommendation
  • Unofficial transcripts (official transcripts only required if accepted)
  • Statement of purpose

Some of the above requirements can be waived in select cases when other components of the application are particularly outstanding. Satisfaction of the above requirements does not guarantee admission.

Graduate application procedure

Information regarding the procedure for applying for graduate studies can be obtained from the website of the Graduate Admissions Office.

Applicants intending to apply after the deadline for each session MUST be sponsored by a faculty member in ME for waiver of the deadline.
