Undergraduate Students

  • Each year scholarships are awarded to biomedical engineering students through the Office of the Dean of the College of Engineering.  Individuals, organizations, and various members of the B.M.E. industry donate the funds for these scholarship awards.  Additionally, students receiving Presidential Scholarships or Dean’s Scholarships are offered the opportunity to work in a research laboratory within the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
  • The Department of Biomedical Engineering, through a special bequest, offers one Clarence H. Clark Scholarship each year.
  • The Department of Biomedical Engineering also offers scholarships to deserving students after their first year of study in biomedical engineering.  These scholarships offer selected students the opportunity to work in a research laboratory within the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
  • The Department of Biomedical Engineering offers the Bea Park Scholarship to advanced-level students (both undergraduate and graduate) pursuing studies in the area of biomaterials.

Graduate Students

  • The Department of Biomedical Engineering offers two types of financial assistance to graduate students: (1) research assistantships and (2) teaching assistantships.  The majority of graduate biomedical engineering students are supported by research assistantships.  And research assistants are appointed by faculty members to conduct research on a well-defined project, typically sponsored by an external agency (e.g., NSF, NIH, etc.)  The research that is conducted by a research assistant is almost always in-line with his or her M.S. thesis or Ph.D. dissertation.
  • The Department of Biomedical Engineering also offers a limited number of teaching assistantships.  And teaching assistantships provide a monthly-stipend (The Graduate Handbook provides specific information about teaching assistantships and the respective duties and responsibilities.)
