The University has created a page with a number of resources available to you in an easy to use format. Click here to access the "Keep Teaching at Iowa" site.

We’ve also put together some information and tutorial and guide links to help you stay connected and be an effective teacher online. Some of this is redundant with the ITS message but we wanted to make sure you find what you need. As you think about your technology situation, please feel free to contact Engineering Computer Services ( consultant@engineering.uiowa.edu ) with any questions.

Good Practices moving to an Online Environment (during disruptive times)

●  Communicate proactively and often
●  Reduce complexity & delivery where possible
●  Use them but keep videos short (15 minutes or less)
●  Be very specific in requests and assignments to students and patient with their questions.
●  Make sure your materials are as easy to find as possible
●  Consider using resources already available (i.e. LinkedIn Learning, WileyPlus for example, is offering free access to digital courseware)
●  Stay connected to your class and your students via email or discussion boards.
●  Hold office hours via Zoom, Skype, or even Google Hangouts
●  If you’re not sure – ask faculty mentor, ECS, ITS, etc…
●  Be selective of what needs to be Synchronous (live) and Asynchronous (recorded). Focus on Asynchronous as much as possible to reduce bandwidth requirements for students.
●  Test everything before class starts
●  Don't be too hard on yourself; remember – it’s ok to make mistakes. This is new to many. Be patient with them and they will be patient with you.

ICON

ICON Resources
     ● Groups & Discussions - Every group created in Canvas receives its own group space. This group homepage acts like a smaller version of your course and can be used as a collaborative tool where students can work together on group projects and assignments. Instructors are not added as members to groups, but are able to access each group homepage in their course and interact with group content and assignments.

     ● Quizzes - Quizzes in ICON are online quizzes and surveys. There are many reasons to use online quizzes, even when teaching in a face to face classroom. Quizzes can be used to assess comprehension of course material, and to reveal areas that students may need to focus on to improve classroom performance

DUO
To better protect your information, the University of Iowa uses Two-Step Login as an extra layer of security on select websites and services.

Using Two-Step Login helps keep academic and personal data safe—opt-outs aren't permitted. Passwords provide only so much protection—even the strongest ones can be stolen. Requiring login verification from a device only you possess (for example, your mobile phone) prevents hackers from accessing your accounts and pretending they’re you.
