VPN sessions now require Duo Two-step logins. Please make sure you have Duo Two-step service enabled on your HawkID account. During login, you will be prompted for a "Secondary password". See this page for details on what to enter (note that page is for the Cisco AnyConnect client, but the "Second password" field works the same way on the Pulse client).
Engineering VPN instructions (Junos Pulse Secure )
Download and Install
To download the correct version of Pulse Secure, you must know if you are running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows. Go to Start and choose Control Panel. Once in the control panel, click System and Security, then choose System (if your Control Panel view is by Category), or choose System (if your Control Panel view is all settings). In the middle of the resulting screen in the System section, find your system type.
Go to the ECS download page, which requires you to login with your HawkID and password. Select the file PulseSecure-win32.exe for 32-bit machines, or PulseSecure-win64.msi for 64-bit machines. When prompted, choose Run and click Allow whenever you are prompted with that choice.
Run
Launch Pulse Secure application. It will open a small window.
Click the (+) button to add a new connection. It will bring up another small window. Pick name of your choice and type in https://vpn.engineering.uiowa.edu in the Server URL box.
Click connect. Then on the next window put in your credential. Also, for security purposes, there will be another window pops up asking for secondary password. Please type in authentication method of your choice.
Example: type in 1 or push for push authentication. If you’re phone is not registered for duo, please click https://its.uiowa.edu/duo to enroll in duo or talk to the consultant at the Engineering Help Desk, 1256 SC, 319-335-5055 for more assistance.

Sign out
When you are done with your session and have closed any active shares, RDP sessions, etc., click the disconnect button. If you do not have a Pulse Secure application running, run the application and click disconnect.

Macintosh
Download and Install
Go to the ECS download page, which requires authentication with your HawkID & password. Select the file PulseSecure-Mac.dmg and save it to a file on your Mac.
After the download completes, double click on the PulseSecure-Mac.dmg file. It opens a virtual disk containing an installer called "PulseSecure.pkg". Double-click on that installer and follow the instructions.
When the installation is complete, you will have Pulse Secure in your Applications folder and a Secure icon in your menu-bar. You can delete the installer and the .dmg file.
Run
Launch the Junos PulseSecure application. It opens a small window which has a box at the top titled "Sign in at:" that looks like a web browser location bar. In that box enter https://vpn.engineering.uiowa.edu and press the Connect button. You will next see a VPN login window.
Login with your HawkID and password. You should get connected to the VPN, changing to an active session window telling you that you are connected to connect2.engineering.uiowa.edu with a session timer and a Sign out button. You need to leave Junos Pulse active during the time you're connected, but you can minimize it to get it off your desktop.
Sign out
When you're done with your session and have closed out any active shares, RDP sessions, etc., press the Disconnect button in the Junos Pulse application.

1. Download the pulsesecure client off of https://s-l109.engr.uiowa.edu/downloads/
2. Choose the latest version for your distro
a. Debian/Ubuntu: https://s-l109.engr.uiowa.edu/downloads/PulseSecure-lnx64.deb
b. Centos/RHEL: https://s-l109.engr.uiowa.edu/downloads/PulseSecure-lnx64.rpm
3. Use the software installer gui by clicking on the download and installing it.
OR after manually downloading the package install it by:
Ubuntu/Debian: dpkg -i PulseSecure-lnx64.deb
Centos/RHEL: rpm -ivh PulseSecure-lnx64.rpm
4. Once installed go ahead and search for the pulsesecure client.
In Ubuntu if the application fails to launch you may be missing required packages. Possibilities are:
libgnome-keyring-common
libgnome-keyring0
libwebkitgtk-dev
These can be installed using the Synaptic GUI or “sudo apt install <packagename>”
To troubleshoot in Ubuntu the default install directory is /usr/local/pulse.
On Centos/Rhel:
yum install PulseSecure-lnx64.rpm
launch pulse-secure and click the plus button and create a new connection. The URL should be
https://vpn.engineering.uiowa.edu

push:
Enter “push” (without quotation marks) to receive a push notification if you are using the Duo Mobile Push app. Tap "Approve" on the notification to complete your login.
phone:
Enter “phone” to receive a phone call at the number you’ve enrolled for two-step logins. Respond to the call to complete your login.
sms:
Enter “sms” to receive a list of passcodes via text. Your initial authentication attempt will be denied. Repeat the process and enter one of the new passcodes you’ve received.
