Ananya Sen Gupta, University of Iowa associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, has been working with Subhajit Khush Das, an artist and choreographer from Kolkata, India, for more than a year to train and test artificial intelligence algorithms to recognize and classify changing features through Bharatanatyam, a classical dance.

University of Iowa (UI) researchers have set up a high-performance computing core named “Quantum” to simulate a quantum computer and perform medical image analysis using quantum-inspired science.

Fatima Toor was announced as one of 77 new senior members of SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. The professional organization profiled Toor as one of the optics and photonics women leaders.

Donald Anderson, professor of orthopedics and rehabilitation in the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine; Gary Christensen, professor of electrical and computer engineering; and Harriet Nembhard, dean of the College of Engineering and University of Iowa and Roy J. Milan Sonka has been named a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), the organization announced on December 7, 2021. He is the third UI faculty member ever named an NAI Fellow.
