A multidisciplinary team of 13 faculty members from five departments offers research expertise in the following areas:
- Advanced manufacturing processes: Additive manufacturing for traditional and non-traditional materials including polymers, metal, composites, ceramics, and energetic materials, laser materials processing, surface processing, nanomaterial synthesis, nano/micro fabrication.
- Sensing and robotics: Photonics/optical sensors, photovoltaic, chemical sensing, in situ sensor design, sensor fault-tolerance, motion planning and control, human-centered robotic design.
- Data integration for smart manufacturing systems: Data fusion, transfer learning, quality control, reliability modeling, advanced data analytics, data-driven process monitoring, prognosis, and control.
- Biomanufacturing and biotechnology: Biological systems such as cells and microorganisms to manufacture and process materials, including synthesizing biomaterials, 3D bioprinting of scaffolds, systems biology, biocatalysis, tissue-on-a-chip fabrications for medical devices, drug delivery, regenerative medicine, and bioscience research.
