PhD Program in Engineering at the University of Iowa
Seeking PhD students
The Graduate Leaders in Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing (GLEAM) program at the University of Iowa seeks to educate, mentor, and prepare Engineering PhD candidates to become future industry and academic leaders in advanced manufacturing by exploring recent advances in AI, sensing, robotics, and bio-technologies. GLEAM fellows may pursue PhD degrees within many of the engineering disciplines at Iowa: industrial, mechanical, biomedical, electrical, or chemical engineering. Anyone with a bachelor’s in a STEM discipline and an interest in this exciting field is eligible. To be considered, please apply through the NSF ETAP system.
About GLEAM
Recent advancements in technology, including sensing, communication, biotechnology, and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), have transformed manufacturing systems into data-rich smart and connected systems. The unprecedented availability of real-time data presents significant opportunities for developing next-generation manufacturing capabilities. The GLEAM program leverages the existing research strengths at the University of Iowa and initiatives in the state of Iowa to significantly advance the University of Iowa’s research capacity.
Fellows may train with one or more of our multidisciplinary team of 13 faculty members from five academic departments within one of four topical areas:
- Advanced manufacturing processes
- Sensing and robotics
- Data integration for smart manufacturing systems
- Biomanufacturing and biotechnology
