A renowned University of Iowa professor of civil and environmental engineering has been inducted into the National Academy of Construction for contributions to environmental design.
Jerald “Jerry” L. Schnoor, Allen S. Henry Chair in Engineering, co-director of the Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research, and faculty affiliate of IIHR – Hydroscience and Engineering, was honored during a ceremony earlier this month.
“It is a true honor to be recognized among an outstanding cohort of leaders in the field of construction engineering," Schnoor said. "I am humbled to have my work in environmental design recognized by leaders in industry. As I look at my career, we have come a long way in improving standards for a more sustainable planet, but much more work remains."
Schnoor is best known for pioneering work using mathematical models in science policy decisions, sustainability, and phytoremediation.
Gregs Thomopulos, former CEO of Stanley Consultants and UI Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, nominated Schnoor. Manish Kothari and Satch Pecori also contributed to the nomination.
A statement supporting the induction read, "a distinguished academician/ researcher and engineer, globally recognized for contributions to civil and environmental engineering."
The class of 2024 added 43 members to the 475 current members of NAC, which is in its 25th year.
“Each of our inductees has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and made significant advancements in the construction and engineering industries,” NAC stated in a LinkedIn post. “We are proud to welcome them into a membership that represents the breadth and diversity of industry stakeholders, all sharing a passion for action and integrity.”
