The President and Provost Award for Teaching Excellence recognizes exceptional and ongoing contributions to student learning and success. The award is the highest teaching honor at the University of Iowa.

Michael J. Brody Award

David Cwiertny, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Cwiertny was honored for leading several public health initiatives to improve the quality of Iowa’s drinking water, including the Iowa Get the Lead Out water-testing program and the development of public data platforms like Iowa Trust Your Tap and the Iowa Well Forecasting System.

Tom "Mach" Schnell, Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering

Schnell is among six faculty members selected by the Iowa Board of Regents for extraordinary contributions and a sustained record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Omar Ahmad, Deputy Director, Driving Safety Research Institute

Ahmad plays a significant role in supporting the university’s mission of advancing scholarly endeavors through leading-edge research. With 25 years of experience in driving safety and simulation research, he is sought internationally for his expertise in simulation technology.

Board of Regents Staff Excellence Award

Keith Schilling, State Geologist and Director of the Iowa Geological Survey

Schilling has overseen the completion of more than 180 projects statewide and is currently leading an $11.3 million carbon sequestration project. He effectively communicates the need to manage natural resources for long-term sustainability and economic development.

UI Outstanding Staff Award

James Niemeier, Assistant Research Scientist, IHR—Hydroscience and Engineering

Niemeier has been instrumental in designing, building, and deploying an extensive stream sensor network for the Iowa Flood Center. His expertise in electrical engineering supports critical flood, drought, and water quality monitoring.
