Riley Coulter (pictured 3rd from left), an undergraduate chemical engineering student, was a summer intern with IFF (International Flavors and Fragrances), a global leader in food, beverage, scent, home and personal care, and health.
Where did you intern at?
IFF (International Flavors and Fragrances) in Cedar Rapids
What kind of activities did your role include?
The summer was full of planning and executing these projects. I worked on optimizing carbon dosage for color and odor of final product using a small scale set up (to help ergonomics of technicians). I also performed experiments to minimize step and overall yield loss for a final product.
My next project I utilized Power BI to make a dashboard to communicate production metrics to management efficiently and effectively. My team projects included utilizing a pilot plant to make improvements to a QA assay and create a calibration curve to derive a relationship between variables in production of an enzyme.
Another team project was to plan a plant wide social event!
