Join us in welcoming Dr. Jionghua (Judy) Jin, professor within the Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan, to our graduate seminar. Dr. Jin will present her seminar titled, “Data Fusion Research to Empower Smart Manufacturing,” on Thursday, February 29, from 3:30-4:20 p.m. in 4030 SC. There will be a small reception in 3307 SC from 3:00-3:30 p.m.

Abstract: In the era of Industrial Big Data, the convergence of advanced sensor technologies and the Internet of Things has opened unprecedented opportunities for smart manufacturing. However, the abundance of data presents challenges in data analysis, especially when dealing with massive high-dimensional streaming data exhibiting spatial and temporal heterogeneity, coupled with intricate functional dependencies. This challenge has motivated and propelled our data fusion research, leveraging the rapid evolution of machine learning methods to elevate quality control methodologies in smart manufacturing. This talk will begin with an exploration of the opportunities and challenges within data fusion research in quality engineering for smart manufacturing. Several exemplary research projects will be discussed to illustrate the imperative need for interdisciplinary collaboration and broad partnerships between academia and industry.
