Avik Samanta has received a 2019 Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards (OTA) from Council on Teaching (COT) at the University of Iowa for his continuous involvement in teaching in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Avik is passionate about teaching the fundamentals of manufacturing processes and instrumentation alongside his Ph.D. research work and enjoys working with undergraduate students. He is continuously involved in planning, execution of new course structure and training of other new undergraduate teaching assistants in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Avik believes that, through teaching, a teacher can shape the critical thinking, problem-solving skills of individuals so that they are confident when they are put into real engineering setup after graduation.
About the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards
Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards by the council of teaching recognizes teaching assistants who have demonstrated outstanding ability as teachers at the University of Iowa. Teaching assistants from all academic units may be nominated for these awards. To be eligible, nominees must have had some type of formal student contact as part of their duties during the Spring, Summer, and/or Fall.
