You are cordially invited to the new Engineering Fluids Laboratories Open House on Friday, January 18, from 11am to 3pm.  The labs are located at 1070 and 1074 SC in the SC annex.

Highlights include:

  • interactive stations including high-speed imaging, electronic test equipment, sensors, and fluid mechanics experiments.
  • demonstrations of new laboratory instruments and equipment (see below for schedule).
  • Meet members of the Iowa Marine Autonomous Racing Club (IMARC), who are forming the foundation of a new learning community within the lab.

The Engineering Fluids Laboratories consist of a suite of three labs serving students in the College of Engineering in a broad array of activities, from a first introduction to fluid mechanics to independent research, supporting scheduled course laboratories, independent course projects and research, student organizations, and other extra-curricular activities.

The new laboratories were developed through a generous grant from the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust.

Scheduled demonstrations:

11:30am Pipe flow visualization

12:15pm The "Mini Shaker": Three-dimensional, time-resolved particle image velocimetry

1:00pm Dye visualization on experimental models

1:30pm Computational fluid dynamics

2:00pm Towing tank demonstration

Looking forward to seeing you on Friday.

James Buchholz
