The College of Engineering will be participating in the annual We Are Phil program on campus this coming week.  We Are Phil is the faculty/staff giving program at the University of Iowa, and it is an annual effort to involve UI employees in advancing our university. The program provides ongoing support to the university from our own faculty and staff, who give to the UI area they care about most.

This year, We Are Phil is focused on the opportunity for and impact of private support across the entire campus. The goal is to help people find a project or cause with which they want to engage and make an impact, whether in Engineering, or elsewhere on campus. The campaign will focus on creating awareness of philanthropy and celebrating the impact of private support on the University of Iowa campus.

If faculty and staff have found a project or cause which resonates, they are encouraged to continue to support it. Gifts can be made via cash, check, credit card, and payroll withholding.

A new component to this year’s faculty-staff campaign is GOLDrush, UI’s own crowdfunding platform, featuring nine projects from around campus.

The Engineering committee chose to Empower UIowa WiSE Femineers™. UIowa WiSE Femineers™ introduces 7-12th grade girls to STEM fields.  The goal is to raise $4,050 to buy 15 Hummingbird Duo Premium Kits (micro-controllers) to build robots. Gifts made to the project will count in the faculty/staff campaign.  However payroll deductions cannot be made toward the project.

Coffee, bagels, and pastries will be served in various locations in the college and research centers from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Monday from 10:00-11:00 a.m.  Collection boxes will be in traditional locations in department offices during the week.
