Terry Braun, associate professor of biomedical engineering and ophthalmology and visual sciences, researcher in the Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, and director of the Coordinated Laboratory for Computational Genomics, has been named as Hansjoerg E.J.W. Kolder MD Associate Professor in Best Disease Research in the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.

The professorship, established through the generosity of Martin and Ruth Carver, is named in honor of Professor Hansjoerg E.J.W. Kolder, teacher, role model, and outstanding clinician and surgeon in the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.

Braun has been involved in the application of high-performance computing technologies to the challenges of disease gene identification and mutation screening. His efforts, in collaboration with members of the College of Medicine, have involved the design of novel techniques utilizing networked systems to analyze genomic sequence and annotation.
