Larry J. Weber, Edwin B. Green Chair in Hydraulics, professor of civil and environmental engineering, and director of IIHR--Hydroscience & Engineering, has been appointed executive associate dean for the College of Engineering at the University of Iowa, effective August 15, 2017.  He will end his directorship at IIHR on that date.

Weber has served for 13 years as director of IIHR. 

"The Institute has clearly thrived as a result of his vision, energy, and inspiring leadership," Alec B. Scranton, dean of the college, said.  "During his directorship, IIHR external funding tripled, and there were significant increases in the number of Faculty Affiliates, Staff and Graduate Students.  He also was co-founder of the very successful Iowa Flood Center; co-founder of the Iowa Nutrient Research Center, administered by Iowa State University; led the integration of the Iowa Geological Survey to The University of Iowa; created focus areas in Environmental Engineering and Sciences and Water Sustainability; developed the Wave Basin building and continued to support growth and expansion of the Ship Hydrodynamics program; and expanded IIHR’s water resources program, through significant funding from Housing and Urban Development that brought over $100 million to the state of Iowa."

In his new role, Weber will strive to enhance the scope and impact of collegiate teaching, research, and service activities to optimally serve the state, the nation, and the world. 

"Dr. Weber's initial focus will include strategic enrollment management, developing a sustainable budget model for the college, and providing innovative support for the college's research enterprise that adapts to the constantly changing national and international funding landscape," Scranton added.
