A memorial service will be held July 29 for J. Richard Simon, University of Iowa professor emeritus of psychology and industrial engineering.

Simon, 87, died May 3 following a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.

The service will be at 11:30 AM, Saturday, July 29th at The University Club, 1360 Melrose Avenue, Iowa City. A luncheon will follow the service.

Simon served the University of Iowa from 1957 until his retirement in 1999.

His research on cognitive functioning resulted in the discovery of the Simon Effect, which provided better emergency response procedures and reduced human error.

His courses focused on the application of psychology to organizations and the designing of work environmental to promote greater satisfaction, safety and efficiency. During his lifetime, he established several funds supporting promising graduate students.
