The University of Iowa Girls Who Code Club will hold an end-of-the-semester celebration at 2:00 p.m. May 28 in the Summers Electronic Classroom, 2229 Seamans Center, Iowa City.

Girls Who Code is a national nonprofit organization working to close the gender gap in technology. It launched 1,500 after-school clubs for middle and high school girls in all 50 states this year.

Throughout the past three months, the UI club has introduced girls from 10 to 16 years old to computer science every Sunday afternoon, and has worked together on a Computer Science Impact Project, where club members have learned to use computer science to address a topic relevant to the classroom and community.

The UI club project focuses on healthy foods. Students researched foods around the world, the food pyramid, and different dietary restrictions, and gathered recipes.
