The College of Engineering has appointed two alumni as members of its Engineering Advisory Board.

They are Sharon K. Tinker (BSChE 1980) and Christopher Day (BSE 1991 Civil Engineering).  Both will serve four-year terms starting with the April 7, 2017 board meeting.

Tinker, of Ankeny, IA, is retired process safety engineer in the ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company.  After graduation from the University of Iowa, she joined the Exxon Chemical Company and worked in technical and management positions in chemical plants and refineries in Texas, California, Louisiana, and Singapore.  She has served as a member of the UI Chemical and Biochemical Department Advisory Board and the college's Campaign Task Force.

Day, of Muscatine, IA, is vice president and client service manager with the U.S. Federal and International Programs Market at Stanley Consultants, Inc.    He is a licensed professional engineer in four states.    He joined the company in 1992 and was elected vice president in 2012. 

The Advisory Board provides value to the college in developing and achieving its strategic plan/vision.  The board provides advice by drawing upon perspectives, knowledge, and experiences from global trends.  Meanwhile, the college provides awareness and knowledge of new technologies and educational trends, and informs the board of its progress in achieving the strategic plan.

Board members benefit by being part of ongoing communication between the world of engineering education as represented by the college and the full spectrum of engineering activities.
