Phil Deierling, doctoral student in mechanical and industrial engineering studying under Olesya Zhupanska, formerly in the College of Engineering and now professor of

aerospace and mechanical engineering at the University of Arizona, has received the Lockheed Martin Student Paper Award in Structures at the AIAA SciTEch 2016 conference in San Diego ( https://www.aiaa-scitech.org/).
His paper was titled "Thermal Response of Spatially Graded Metal-Ceramic Structural Panel to Non-Uniform Heating in Hypersonic Flow." Deierling authored the paper along with Zhupanska and Crystal L. Pasiliao from Air Force Research Laboratory, Munitions Directorate, Eglin AFB, FL.
