Industrial Engineer magazine has published a major article on big data, authored by Andrew Kusiak, professor and departmental executive officer of mechanical and industrial engineering.

In the article, Kusiak advocates that industrial engineers can play a key role in mining numbers for dramatic improvements.

"The growth of data streams and data analysis will generate significant developments in the 21st century," Kusiak says. "Big data will play a key role in shaping the design of products, systems and services by making them smarter, better connected, more efficient and widely accessible. Data will become a powerful economic engine."

Industrial Engineer magazine serves the diverse audience of professionals and students whose common interest is industrial engineering.
