The Iowa Geological Survey (IGS) has announced the release of GeoSam version 1.0. GeoSam is an easy-to-use online interface that offers
users access to a wide range of geologic data, including information collected by well drillers, searchable by address or county.
The new GeoSam is a significant improvement over the previous version. Users can search the database using either a map- or text-based interface. A new feature in GeoSam allows users to save search results as “KML” files, which can be opened in Google Earth or imported into ESRI’s ArcGIS.
Questions about the new GeoSam can be submitted by either using the “Contact” form in GeoSam or by emailing iihr-igs-wellrecords@uiowa.edu.
The Iowa Geological Survey (https://iowageologicalsurvey.uiowa.edu/), based at IIHR—Hydroscience and Engineering at the University of Iowa, provides Iowans with expertise in subsurface geology and groundwater resources. The IGS serves agencies, communities, and other stakeholders with surficial and bedrock mapping statewide, maintenance of a repository of geologic samples and data, geologic research projects across the state, and a wide range of outreach and educational activities.
