Julie L. P. Jessop, associate professor of chemical and biochemical engineering and researcher at the UI Photopolymerization Center, has been named a Fellow of the American Chemical Society (ACS).

The society recognized Jessop for her contribution to the science/profession by "driving innovations in STEM education and enthusiastically recruits the next generation through K-12 outreach. She exponentially increases her impact by mentoring STEM faculty and students to do likewise."

It also noted her contribution to the ACS community by "providing Division of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering focus, financial savings, and flexibility through strategic planning, leadership development, and migration to electronic media. She continues to strengthen the Division through strategic alliances with ACS committees."

Jessop will be honored at the fall ACS National Meeting in Washington, DC.

The ACS Fellows Program was created by the ACS Board of Directors in December 2008 to recognize members of ACS for outstanding achievements in and contributions to science, the profession, and the Society.
