Professor Xuan Song

Xuan Song, James A. Chisman Faculty Fellow and associate professor of industrial and systems engineering, has won the American Ceramic Society’s (ACerS) 2026 Du-Co Ceramics Young Professional Award.

The award was established in honor of the late Reldon Cooper, co-founder of Du-Co Ceramics, to recognize a young professional member of ACerS who demonstrates exceptional leadership and service to ACerS. The award comes with an honorarium in the amount of $1,500, certificate of recognition, and lifetime membership in ACerS.

Song, also a faculty affiliate of the Iowa Technology Institute, joined the College of Engineering in 2016. His research group specializes in the design, manufacturing, and diagnostics of extreme materials that operate under high-temperature and high-strain-rate conditions.

This is the latest recognition for Song, who has also received the U.S. National Science Foundation CAREER Award, the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) Young Investigator Award, and SME Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award.

The Du-Co Ceramics award was presented at the ACerS Honors and Awards Banquet during its 128th Annual Meeting (MS&T26) on October 5 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
