Meesha Dogan, a University of Iowa engineering alumna who is working to commercialize a genetic test that helps diagnose and treat heart disease, was named to Crain's Chicago Business 40 Under 40 list for 2025.

Dogan is the founder and CEO of Cardio Diagnostics, a Chicago-based biotechnology company that uses AI to make cardiovascular disease prevention and early detection more accessible, personalized, and precise.

Crain's detailed how Dogan's time at a pioneering UI epigenetics lab changed her life. "I've been able to use my education and knowledge of chemical bioengineering and how artificial intelligence can accelerate the technology to help so many people," she is quoted as saying.

This is the latest achievement for Dogan, who received a PhD in biomedical engineering in 2017, a master's in chemical and biochemical engineering in 2012, and a bachelor's in chemical engineering in 2011, all at the University of Iowa.

Among other accolades: One to Watch from Nature and Merck, Biotech Breakthrough's Clinical Diagnostics Solution of the Year, Fast Company's Next Big Things in Tech 2022, and FLIK Woman Entrepreneur to Watch in 2021. Dogan's research has also led to at least seven granted patents with more pending approval.
