What led you to choose engineering as a career path?
I chose chemical engineering because of strong skills in chemistry and math, but stuck with it because I love to solve problems. I continued school in chemical engineering because I did electrochemical engineering research with Dr. Mubeen and saw the impact that research could have on both industry and the world.
What led you to the University of Iowa?
My mother was a student in Nursing at the University of Iowa, but I chose Iowa because the CBE department had a strong community feel for a large university.
Favorite thing about being a professor at the University of Iowa?
The sense of community within the University of Iowa, College of Engineering, and Chemical and Biochemical department.
What course are you teaching this semester? Do you have a favorite?
I previously assisted with Design II and independently taught Materials Science. I am currently teaching Introduction to Engineering Problem Solving and will be teaching Fluid Flow in the spring. My favorite class so far would be Materials Science as I enjoy understanding what makes up items in everyday life, but IEPS is great as I get to meet our first year engineers before they begin their engineering courses and see their raw engineering potential.
What is your favorite place you have traveled to?
I really enjoyed my honeymoon in Antigua and my ECS conference in Cancun. Especially because Cancun was during the fall and it was warm there.
What are some of your hobbies?
3D design and printing, videogames, spending time with my kids and dog.
What is your favorite place to eat in Iowa City?
I really enjoy One Twenty Six, Airliner on Tuesdays, and Estellas
Fun fact about you?
I am also the Director of Technology for a startup company, Pranions, Inc. and a Iowa Innovation Fellow at the University of Iowa from the first cohort.
