Hannah Vogts, a fourth-year University of Iowa biomedical engineering (BME) student, has been awarded a scholarship from Tau Beta Pi, which is among the oldest engineering honor societies in the country.

The North Liberty native studying cellular engineering received the Record Scholarship, which is funded through a bequest from the late Leroy E. Record.

“I am so honored and grateful to have received this scholarship," Vogts said. “It allows me to continue my studies at Iowa without added financial strain, and I am so thankful to have been chosen as a recipient.”

Upperclassmen can be invited to join Tau Beta Pi, and involvement consists of monthly meetings, volunteer events, social events, and a symposium, Vogts said.

Vogts has been heavily engaged in activities at Iowa. As the lead tutor at the Hanson Center for Communication, she provides guidance in technical communication. She has conducted research under the mentorship of Xuan Mu, BME assistant professor, working with silk fibroin from silkworms as a biomaterial and separately conducted computational biology research.
