The University of Iowa’s chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), Iowa Baja, attended the Baja SAE Nationals competition in Gorman California May 16th-19th.  98 engineering schools from around the world arrived to compete in this annual event in which students design, build, and race single person off-road vehicles.

After completing a rigorous technical inspection, the team passed brake check on the first try! On Saturday the car performed as intended bringing home 18th in the suspension course, 23rd in hillclimb, 13th in cost, and 34th in acceleration.

Wrapping up the 4-day event was the 4-hour endurance race. In years past the car struggled to stay mobile due to drivetrain failures. Not this year... the car lasted all 4 hours through the gruesome mud and intimidating rock crawl to bring home 5th, the highest endurance finish in University of Iowa history
