Civil Engineering junior Abbey Teubel has earned two scholarships totaling $7,500 from the Iowa Concrete Paving Association ($2,500) and the Iowa Ready Mixed Concrete Association ($5,000).
Teubel was presented the scholarships January 20 during the University of Iowa Men's Basketball Game at Carver Hawkeye Arena.
Teubel currently serves as a student worker on the Engineering Technology Center Help Desk, and was an intern last summer for Linn County Engineering, mastering surveying, working with a total station and GPS technology, and oversaw concrete and asphalt overlay projects. She also is a board member of the student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
For the third year, the Iowa Concrete Paving Association and Iowa Ready Mixed Concrete Association hosted an Iowa Men's Basketball Game and a pre-game reception for UI College of Engineering students and concrete business professionals.
The two sponsor organizations represent one of Iowa's major industries. The industry employs more than 43,000 Iowans in cement production, production of ready mixed concrete, concrete paving contractors, and related material and transportation suppliers. The paving associations are termed to be the largest of any individual state, contributing more than $400 million to the state's annual revenues.
