Hosin (David) Lee (https://www.engineering.uiowa.edu/faculty-staff/hosin-david-lee), professor of civil and environmental engineering, recently chaired the First International Conference on Maintenance and Rehabilitation of Constructed Infrastructure Facilities (MAIREINFRA1).

Lee also received the Achievement Award and Stephen Baek (https://www.engineering.uiowa.edu/faculty-staff/stephen-baek), UI assistant professor of mechanical and industrial engineering, received the Best Paper Award.

The event (http://maireinfra.org/) was held July 19-21, 2017, in Seoul, Korea, and was organized by the International Society for Maintenance and Rehabilitation of Transport Infrastructures (iSMARTi).  Lee is president of the organization (ismarti.org).

More than 250 people attended from 21 countries.

Korean Congressmen Sang Min Lee  and Hong Chul Min and Myung-Ja Kim, president of KOFST, and Joon Kee Kim, deputy mayor of safety management, gave congratulatory remarks.

Keynote speakers included Burcu Akinci, Paul Christiano Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering and associate dean for research at the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.

The conference was held for material manufacturers and specifiers, civil engineers and architects, urban designers and disaster resilience professionals, contractors and construction managers, maintenance engineers and asset managers, professional engineers and consultants, government employees and academic researchers involved in maintaining, rehabilitating, managing, preserving and resiliating sustainable infrastructure systems worldwide.

The conference was covered by Yonhap News TV and Yonhap News, both major Korean news organizations.
