The UI College of Engineering secured more than $28 million in externally funded research grants and contracts for FY15. Coming in at $28,465,341, the funding was below the FY14
There were seven faculty and research staff members who were awarded more than $1 million in funding. They are:
- Dawn Marshall, staff research assistant, cognitive systems engineering, National Advanced Driving Simulator, at $2,009,612
- Nathan Young, adjunct associate professor, civil and environmental engineering, and associate faculty research engineer at IIHR--Hydroscience & Engineering, at $2,645,492
- Frederick Stern, George D. Ashton Professor of Hydroscience and Engineering, professor of mechanical and industrial engineering, and faculty research engineer at IIHR, at $1,735,280
- Witold Krajewski, holder of the Rose & Joseph Summers Chair in Water Resources Engineering, professor of civil and environmental engineering, faculty research engineer at IIHR - Hydroscience & Engineering, and director of the Iowa Flood Center, at $1,733,046
- Larry Weber, holder of the Edwin B. Green Chair in Hydraulics, professor of civil and environmental engineering, and director of IIHR, at $1,647,421
- Thomas Schnell, associate professor of mechanical and industrial engineering and director of the Operator Performance Laboratory, at $1,428,450
- P. Barry Butler, professor of mechanical and industrial engineering and provost and executive vice president of the University of Iowa, at $1,249,382
Combined University of Iowa public and private funding for research was up 2 percent, from $431.4 million in FY14 to $438.5 million in FY15. Also up in FY15 were the total number of awards granted (up 3 percent, from 2,185 in FY14 to 2,240 in FY15). There were 169 new sponsors of both research funding and other funding in FY15.
