The graduate seminar is being held jointly for the Environmental Engineering and Science program; Structures, Mechanics, and Materials program; and Transportation and Infrastructure program in Civil and Environmental Engineering.  In addition, Hegde will hold meetings with several faculty members on the topics of infrastructure and water sustainability.  He also will visit the UI Center for Computer-Aided Design.

Wipro is a large conglomerate that has a multitude of businesses including IT and Consulting Services. It has operations in 61 countries and employs about 140,000 people.

In his talk, Hegde will discuss how the world is rapidly urbanizing, led by emerging economies such as India and China.  The urban population in India is expected to more than double to 900 million by 2050.  However, infrastructure development in cities has lagged population growth.  These cities are seeing increasing number of people who live in informal settlements; growing income inequities and alienation.
