A "STEM Celebration of MLK" will be presented from 3;30-5:00 p.mm. Friday, January 23, in the Stanley Auditorium, 1505 Seamans Center.
Dr. Maggy Tomova of the UI Department of Mathematics will speak on "Finding Inspiration in the Work of Dr. King."
It has been more than 50 years since the March on Washington and yet the work of Dr. Martin Luther King remains relevant today. Tomova's talk will take a tour of some famous quotes by the civil rights leader. She will share personal stories from the daily life of her singer-gender, multi-racial family and talk about her work with low income high school students.
The celebration is sponsored by the UI Department of Mathematics, Applied Math and Computational Sciences Program, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering, and the UI/Sloan Center. Refreshments will be served. The talk is open to the public.
