The Captain Jim "Max" Gross Chair in Engineering was established by the late Jim O’Brien Gross and his widow Donnita Gross. Jim Gross worked as a flight instructor and accountant for Lear Jet and was an accomplished pilot and flight instructor with American Airlines for many years. Gross helped test the Boeing 777 aircraft, and he was an instructor pilot on the Boeing 787.
