Our mission is to help you express yourself as a future engineer. Devoting time and effort to grow as a writer is the best preparation for a career in which success is often measured by the quality of your communications.

Who are the Peer Writing Tutors?

Peer writing tutors are undergraduate engineering students who demonstrate exceptional skill as communicators. Peer tutors do not grade, nor do they offer comments or conjectures about grades. Instead, they help their fellow students focus on revising communicated elements of reports, essays, presentations, and proposals.

How does the HCC help students?

In the Fall of 2019, HCC peer writing tutors held 764 appointments. Of those, 321 were for scholarship thank you letters, 241 for Statics essays, 101 for lab reports, 40 for résumés, and 31 for other essays. The Presentation Zone offered additional appointments for students to practice individual or group presentations with at least one full-time staff member offering feedback on both content and delivery alongside the peer tutors. Every student helped in the HCTC is an engineering student, but not every assignment needs to be an engineering assignment. Our tutors saw students from an array of courses: from Material and Energy Balances, Materials Science, and Fluid Mechanics to Introduction to Management, Rhetoric, and Acting for Success.
