Shamus Roeder BME alum

Shamus Roeder founded his first startup, ABAL Therapeutics, while in his final year of pursuing a BSE in biomedical engineering and a BS in human physiology, graduating in spring of 2017. After graduating, he went directly into the University of Iowa’s biomedical engineering MS program through the Heartland Center’s NIOSH Fellowship in Ergonomics, graduating in 2019 with his thesis on novel methods of quantifying human exposure to impacts and vibrations. Since graduating and winding down his startup, he has continued to engage with the University of Iowa as a mentor with the Venture Mentoring Service and was named Iowa’s 2024 Mentor of the Year last fall. Today, he is heavily involved in medical AI development and commercialization, working for Whiterabbit.ai as a senior product manager and government affairs lead and holds Whiterabbit.ai’s seat on the AI Healthcare Coalition Steering Committee in Washington, D.C.
