Professor and Head of Chemical Engineering (1949-1972)

Like the cigar smoke that followed him everywhere in the "Engineering Building," Karl Kammermeyer's spirit of learning permeates the College to this day. A German immigrant arriving in the U.S. as a 21-year-old aspiring engineer, Kammermeyer devoted much of his career to his most precious achievement -- the success of a multitude of students who studied under this gifted teacher and responded later as loyal, devoted alumni. He helped launch many a private sector career by collaborating with students motivated by his pioneering work in membrane separations. Fanning out across corporate and academic landscapes, his "family tree" of former students reveres him to this day as their mentor.
