BS 1978 in Civil Engineering

Patricia Coleman, P.E., has more than 31 years of experience in structural design and project management of various building types including commercial, education, industrial, residential, retail, and healthcare facilities. Ms. Coleman is retired principal at Thornton Tomasetti, Dallas, TX, who formerly led the health care market sector at the firm. Thornton Tomasetti is a leader in engineering design, investigation and analysis serving clients worldwide. During her career, she managed complex engineering projects, including Samsung Global Engineering headquarters, Seoul, South Korea; the Mary Kay corporate headquarters expansion; NEC America, Inc.; University of Miami Student Activity Center and Whitten University Center; and Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, Acute Care expansion. Ms. Coleman is a licensed professional engineer in Florida, Iowa, Michigan and Texas. She is a member of American Society of Civil Engineers, and American Society of Healthcare Engineers.
She has been involved with the ACE Mentor Program of Dallas-Ft. Worth, and on the board of directors since 2003. She also serves as chair of the National Affiliates Council, ACE Mentor Program of America. The program is a volunteer organization of professionals in the architectural, construction, and engineering industry which mentors underprivileged high school students in 180 cities. Mentors assist student teams in preparing multidisciplinary design projects and presenting their work to other students, their parents, and faculty members. ACE awards scholarships to students who demonstrate exceptional potential to successfully pursue higher education leading to careers in the design and construction professions. Ms. Coleman is a member of the UI College of Engineering Advisory Board.
