Michael Farrell

Michael Farrell is currently a managing director at Google, where he leads an engineering team delivering GenAI and AI-based cloud for public sector customers in the USA, UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. This work focuses on building and operating highly secure technical infrastructure, including datacenters, networks, servers, and AI chips.  Prior tech industry experience includes time on both the east coast and west coasts, doing software product development at Microsoft Corp and microelectronics (chip) manufacturing at Intel Corp.

Earlier in his career, Michael served the defense and national security community in roles for research & development (R&D) and technical operations. He developed algorithms for radar tracking and sensor fusion at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, led two large DARPA programs in cybersecurity research, and later served as chief scientist at GTRI — a $1B non-profit research institute with ~3000 staff. Inside government, Michael’s work centered on network security and data analysis, for which he and his teams received awards from the Director of National Intelligence and the Secretary of Defense.

Michael is a senior member of the IEEE, a GTRI Fellow, and has taken turns serving on the Intelligence Community Studies Board, Naval Studies Board, and the DARPA ISAT Study Group.  He earned a bachelor's in industrial and systems engineering from the University of Iowa and a master's and PhD in electrical and computer engineering from Georgia Tech. He is an Eagle Scout and supports his two children’s scouting journeys along with his wife.
