The Space Design Competition is focused on aerospace engineering and a space settlement. This event provides high-school aged students with the unique opportunity! This competition is set in the future, about 30-50 years, in an era when interplanetary colonization is being planned and delivered by the private sector.  Theme: Initial settlements and beginning economic activity near and on Mars

Who:

  • High school students (ages 14-18). Must be enrolled in a US based school.
  • Teams of students are welcome!

Where:

  • Seamans Center for Engineering Arts & Sciences, 103 S. Capitol Street, Iowa City, Iowa
  • Overnight accommodations will be at Catlett Hall on the University of Iowa campus.

Day #1
7:30am - Check-in at the Seamans Center
8:30am - Welcome & Introduction to the Competition
9:15am - 10:15pm Companies will divide and start Working on the Design project
11:00pm - Lights Out at Dorm
We will break for lunch & dinner, and to check into the dorm.

Day #2
7:00am - Re-check-in
8:30am - Design Slides Due
9:30am - Companies Present
2:00pm - Closing Ceremony
4:00pm - Departure
We will provide breaks for breakfast and lunch
