Name: Gonzalo Ferrada

Hometown: Valparaíso, Chile

Department: Chemical and Biochemical Engineering

Research: In my research I improved atmospheric models to better represent and predict smoke from fires in the Earth system. These improvements consisted in (i) estimating emissions of different species from fires detected with satellites and (ii) estimating the injection height of smoke plumes in the atmosphere.

Plans after graduation: I will be a research associate in the Civil & Environmental Engineering department at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
